Derek Puzzuoli was raised in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He attended the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Government with a focus on International Relations. Derek then spent the next five years as an Active Duty Coast Guard Officer serving in Astoria, Oregon, and a Search and Rescue Center in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan.

After his Coast Guard service, Derek moved to Fort Worth, Texas and worked as a Regional Field Operations Leader for a large trucking company. He was responsible for monitoring and evaluating the performance of driver leaders and planners for a fleet of 75 trucks and 100 drivers in the Dallas, Houston, Memphis, Kansas City, St. Louis, Denver and Minnesota markets. Derek then accepted a position with a different intermodal transportation company focusing on providing solutions and improving efficiencies across the North American rail networks.

Derek is seeking his first elected office because he misses public service. He will utilize his leadership experiences in the Coast Guard and in logistics to make an immediate impact in supporting Overland Park in its efforts to improve security and prosperity.

Since moving to Overland Park, Derek has quickly become involved in community service opportunities sponsored through the local Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, where he is a member.

In his free time, he enjoys reading, golfing, biking, playing tennis, playing basketball, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. Derek understands that his combination of military and private sector experience will be a great asset if elected to the Overland Park City Council.
